Health & Safety (Safety Signs & Signals) Regulations

This work place safety poster details the regulations and shows the colour requirements for safety signboards.

The results of the risk assessment made under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations will have identified situations where there may be a residual risk when warning or further information are neccessary, and consequently requires signage.

Safety sign means a sign referring to a specific object, activity or situation and providing information or instruction about health and safety at work, by means of a:-

• signboard (information or instructions by a combination of colours & symbols
• hand signal
• acoustic signal
• verbal communication

The regulations apply to all workplaces and activities where people are employed, including the regulation of works traffic through the use of road traffic signs.
